Incoming Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer comes out swinging

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Now that Warnock and Ossoff have both won, the Democrats are about to take control of the Senate. That means Mitch McConnell will be out as Senate Majority Leader, and Chuck Schumer will be in. This has left a number of liberal observers wondering what Schumer has up his sleeve. After all, for the past several years he’s been relegated to Minority Leader, where he had no real power.

It turns out Schumer is coming out swinging today. He’s leading the charge in demanding that Mike Pence invoke the 25th Amendment and immediately remove Donald Trump from power. This is important because Pence and the cabinet are only going to consider doing it if there’s so much pressure on them, they end up worried about the impact on their political careers if they don’t invoke the 25th.

Again, Chuck Schumer does not have the power to invoke the 25th Amendment – and he still won’t have that power even once he becomes Senate Majority Leader in a week or two. But it’s a strong sign that Schumer is leading the way in making the Democratic push for the 25th right now.
