Mitch McConnell just got backed into a corner

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

The $2,000 relief bill was just passed by the Democratic House, with 44 House Republicans also voting “yes.” This means there are surely enough votes for it to pass the Republican Senate, and it places great pressure on Mitch McConnell to allow a vote.

McConnell can still refuse to hold a Senate vote. But he would risk backlash from the Republican Senators who want to vote “yes” on it. He would also risk losing the Georgia Senate runoffs due to public backlash against his party.

Not sure what McConnell will do. He’s been getting harder to read lately. But this is definitely not a situation he wanted to be in. And he can’t just magic wand his way out of it. He either has to let the $2,000 measure pass (which he’s opposed up to this point), or he has to roll the dice on the consequences of the backlash. It’s his move.
