One step closer
The initial doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine were flown into the United States today on a charter jet, according to the WSJ. That puts us one step closer. Approval hasn’t been finalized, but they’re getting it in place in order to hit the ground running when it comes. The initial distribution to vulnerable people is expected late next month.
This means that if everything remains on schedule, the initial distribution will take place while Trump is still in office. This is dicey, but necessary. The FDA can’t just sit back and wait until President Biden is in office before starting the distribution.
The good news is that with the transition already officially underway, it means people like Biden are now coordinating with people like Dr. Fauci and the FDA Administrator, meaning this will hopefully go fairly smoothly.
In any case, the initial distribution is expected to go to people like frontline medical workers, people with severe preexisting conditions, or the elderly. By all accounts, most of us won’t be getting the vaccine until early next year, meaning Biden likely will be in office by then. Stay safe in the meantime. Stay home or wear a mask.
