Trump’s Georgia stooges Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue are even worse than you think
If Democrats are to control the U.S. Senate next year, then incumbents David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler must both be defeated in the Georgia runoff elections on January 5. Even if these elections weren’t so consequential, Perdue’s and Loeffler’s actions continue to make it clear these aren’t people who deserve another term under any circumstances.
Even as the coronavirus pandemic rages on thanks to a criminally inept Trump administration, Loeffler co-hosted a “Save our Majority” rally on Wednesday in Atlanta with fellow Trump enabler Marco Rubio. Loeffler held the rally indoors in a windowless room in which half the attendees, at most, wore masks, according to tweets from CNN correspondent Kyung Lah. People were turned away only for lack of space—not for health reasons, she noted. It didn’t take long before the entire CNN crew realized the rally was simply too risky to cover and fled to safety.
Perdue holds the “honor” of being the top Trump loyalist in the entire Senate (and second-highest in Congress), according to the “Axios on HBO” Loyalty Index. He earned this disqualifying achievement by voting with Trump 95% of the time and defending the Loser-in-Chief through seven key controversies—from the Access Hollywood video to the recent Bible photo-op—that would have ended most politicians’ careers.
Not surprisingly, Perdue is an unabashed climate denier. In May 2017, he urged Trump to withdraw from the Paris Climate Accord, calling it “a perfect example of Obama-era overreach.” Two years earlier, Perdue voted against a Senate resolution that acknowledged the reality of climate change and human contribution toward it. Now, even as Perdue benefits from the protective measures his expensive beach community has taken, he still calls climate change a hoax.
Perdue’s 9,000-square-foot home is situated on Sea Island, a luxury gated community on St. Simons Island, Georgia, that has seen the sea level rise in recent years. As a result, the community has allocated a significant amount of money toward constructing a system of jetties and sea walls to protect the homes from the effects of climate change, according to The Intercept. So, it appears that climate change is, indeed, serious business for Perdue—but only when it threatens to destroy this hypocrite’s mansion.

It was no small feat to have succeeded in booting Trump out of the Oval Office, but the good fight is not yet over. Democrats now have a decent shot at reclaiming the Senate, and all eyes are on Georgia voters to add Loeffler and Perdue to the state’s unemployment rolls in January.
