During election night in 2012, Republican operative Karl Rove was on Fox News and tried to insist that Mitt Romney still had a chance of pulling out Ohio, while other Fox personalities had to explain to Rove that the election really was over. But now that Donald Trump is trying to drag out an obvious election loss, even Rove is now publicly telling him that it’s over.

Karl Rove has written an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal this evening, flatly stating that “This election result won’t be overturned.” Rove goes into detail about how the margins in the deciding swing states are far too large to have any chance of being overturned by any means. Rove is also urging Trump to agree to a peaceful transition process. This is a big deal for obvious reasons.

Rove is the kind of Republican operative you’d normally expect to be spearheading an attempt at stealing an election. Yet even Rove has seen enough and is very publicly telling Donald Trump that it’s over. Our guess is that Rove is worried about Trump ruining the GOP’s prospects in future elections if he continues humiliating himself and the party by dragging this out. When you’ve lost Karl Rove, it’s over.
