Confirmed: Donald Trump’s coronavirus treatment was tested on cells from an abortion
Adlai Stevenson I, who served as Vice President under Grover Cleveland, said, “A hypocrite is the kind of politician who would cut down a redwood tree, then mount the stump and make a speech for conservation.” Perhaps no politician today exemplifies this persona better than Donald Trump, who has put his hypocrisy on full display since contracting the coronavirus last week.
Trump has not only been benefiting from the emergency antibody treatment he has been receiving from Regeneron, but he has been singing its praises as if it’s the new hydroxychloroquine. While at Walter Reed, Trump recorded a video calling the therapy “miracles coming down from God.” Trump has since recorded more videos calling the treatment “like, unbelievable” and promoting it as “a cure” that he promises will become available “immediately” to all Americans at “no charge.”
The thing is, the antibody cocktail Trump uses contains HEK 293T human cells, which can be traced to an aborted fetus’ kidney in the Netherlands from nearly 50 years ago, according to MIT Technology Review. As a fierce opponent of abortion rights, Trump has been trying to stop the type of research that leads to breakthroughs such as the antibody treatment he now lauds.
Last year, the Trump administration refused to renew a fetal tissue research contract with the University of California, San Francisco, arguing that “[p]romoting the dignity of human life from conception to natural death is one of the very top priorities of President Trump’s administration. The administration then created a Human Fetal Tissue Research Ethics Advisory Board, which recently denied funding to 13 out of 14 applicants, despite the fact they were recommended by scientific reviewers and complying with all legal and ethical requirements, according to reporting from Science magazine.
With less than a month remaining until Election Day and early voting under way, Trump has reminded America yet again just how much of a raving hypocrite he is. Stevenson’s succinct description fits Trump perfectly because he is a body without a soul hosting a mind without a philosophy. Trump’s infamous lack of a moral compass enables him to say what suits him at one moment then do the opposite later without hesitation or fear of consequences. It’s time to send this diseased hypocrite packing.
