Donald Trump’s henchman Elliott Broidy indicted for conspiring with foreign country
Five weeks ago, the news surfaced that Donald Trump’s henchman Elliott Broidy was going to end up being criminally indicted. Today it finally happened, and the charges include conspiring with a foreign country to influence the outcome of a Trump administration criminal investigation.
There are two things to consider here. The first is that Donald Trump installed Elliott Broidy as a deputy finance chairman of the Republican National Committee shortly after taking office. Broidy ended up resigning amid mounting scandals, but it’s clear that Trump was using Broidy as a money guy – and now Broidy has been busted for illegally taking foreign money. Will Broidy cut a plea deal? If so, it would likely involve not only Trump, but also other Republican Party leaders or operatives.
Second, the timing here is notable. Yes, Elliott Broidy was going to be indicted eventually. But why today? Why not a month ago, when they were already leaking that they were ready to indict him? Why not a month from now, after the election is over? Does this have to do with the fact that Donald Trump is now severely compromised by coronavirus, and thus less able to do anything to stop the DOJ from doing its job? Let’s see if this ends up being a pattern, and more Trump henchmen get busted between now and election day.
