Donald Trump is losing the election badly, he’s running out of time to turn things around, and he has no idea how to improve his terrible numbers. So instead he’s resorting to making the empty threat of just magically remaining in office if he loses, even though he knows he’s not within a million miles of having the muscle to pull it off, in the hope of discouraging voters from bothering to finish him off.

Republican Senator Mitt Romney opted to speak out against this immediately on Twitter: “Fundamental to democracy is the peaceful transition of power; without that, there is Belarus. Any suggestion that a president might not respect this Constitutional guarantee is both unthinkable and unacceptable.”

The trouble is that this comes just a few days after Romney announced that he wouldn’t block Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nomination process from happening. Mitt can’t decide which side he’s on. His “both sides” strategy isn’t working for him, as evidenced by the fact that his tweet got nearly as many negative replies as it got likes. Romney is going to have to do better than this if he wants anyone’s respect.
