Defeating Mitch McConnell’s simplistic playbook
Mitch McConnell’s playbook is a simplistic one: he always announces that he has the votes, even when he doesn’t. He’s hoping we’ll conclude he’s won and we’ll stop pressuring the weakest GOP Senators. We can only defeat McConnell by constantly calling his bluff.
– When you call on-the-fence GOP Senators and urge them not to confirm, remind them of this: McConnell promised Susan Collins that he’d protect her if she confirmed Kavanaugh, but now she’s losing her reelection bid in a blowout. McConnell won’t protect them either.
– Recent Democratic Senate primary rivals Ed Markey and Joe Kennedy are now both calling for Senate Democrats to expand the Supreme Court in 2021 if McConnell tries to fill Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s seat now. This is a real thing, and there appears to be real momentum for it within the Democratic Party. The key is that it requires winning a Senate majority to begin with.
