Donald Trump’s downfall sends Mitch McConnell looking for the exit door

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Thursday was Joe Biden’s night. His acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention was his finest hour. Even as Biden was hitting the biggest home run of his lengthy career, his beleaguered opponent Donald Trump was receiving even more bad news – this time involving Mitch McConnell.

Because the Republican Party has become a toxic waste dump in general, and because Donald Trump is a radioactive pariah in particular, the party has been struggling to attract high profile speakers for the Republican National Convention. The joke is that Scott Baio might have to speak twice now that Steve Bannon has been arrested. Even a number of Republicans in Congress have made up excuses not to speak during the convention.

On Thursday night that got even uglier when Mitch McConnell’s camp let it be known that he wasn’t going to be speaking at the Republican National Convention either. This sent a clear message that Donald Trump is such damaged goods, McConnell has given up on him and is instead more focused on trying to salvage the Republican Senate races, including his own. Of course this was such a terrible look for Trump, McConnell ended up quickly reversing his position and now apparently will speak. But the damage is done. Now we know that even Mitch McConnell is looking for the exit door when it comes to Donald Trump’s burning house.
