When Joe Biden made the announcement today that Kamala Harris is his 2020 running mate, it was major current news, and it was also major historic news. Even as the takes came in fast and furious this evening, we’d been waiting to see what kind of context Rachel Maddow would end up putting it in.
Maddow opened her show tonight with the story of how California’s then-Attorney General Kamala Harris played a key role in forcing a larger financial relief package after the last time the big banks wrecked the economy. Maddow covered the progression of how Harris, along with then-Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden of all people, led the charge.
Not only did the segment help connect the longstanding dots between Kamala Harris and Joe Biden, it also served as a reminder that Kamala has been fighting for financial reform and the working class throughout her entire career.
