You’re Donald Trump. Your presidency is in chaotic turmoil. Your approval ratings are in the toilet and dropping. So how do you handle it? You simply ignore your own terrible numbers while you diligently work to find a way to improve them, right? Wrong. Trump is instead resorting to bragging about his least awful poll number which, despite being such an outlier as to be invalid on its own, is still an awful number.

If you look at Donald Trump’s approval rating numbers on an aggregate site like RealClearPolitics, you’ll find that most polling outlets currently have him pegged in the mid thirties to low forties. And then there’s Rasmussen, a polling outlet that’s so cosnstently stacked in favor of Reublican candidates – and usually proven so wrong on Election Day – that it’s debatable whether it should even be included in the averages.

But don’t tell that to Trump, who got so excited by Rasmussen’s recent approval rating number that he tweeted it victoriously:

That’s right, Donald Trump has now been reduced to bragging that a minority of Americans approve of the job he’s doing. Even if the 48% number from Rasmussen were statistically valid, which it’s not, it would still be a terrible number this early in a presidency. And he seems to have missed that Rasmussen had him at 50% earlier this year, meaning his popularity has regressed even by its biased counting. Meanwhile, Trump’s real approval rating based on the averages is in the high thirties and continuing to inch downward.
