Rachel Maddow just nailed it
When Donald Trump announced weeks ago that all public schools must open in the fall nationwide despite the worsening pandemic, Palmer Report pointed out two things. First, Trump doesn’t have that power to begin with; it’s up to state and local officials. Second, when we push back against these things, we win more often than not. That brings us to Rachel Maddow.
On her show tonight, Maddow listed off a number of places around the country where Republican officials announced that the schools would have to reopen, only for activists and protesters to push back and force a change in policy. For instance, Arizona’s Governor has begun incrementally backing down and allowing for guidelines that will determine when, where, or if schools will reopen.
Rachel Maddow is absolutely right about the importance of pushing back against this kind of thing more fiercely than ever. Donald Trump, his regime, and his allies love to simply announce that they’re going to do something awful as if it were a done deal – in the hope of tricking us into believing that they’ve won and we’ve lost. When we don’t fall for their doomsday proclamations, and we fight back, we frequently win.
