The real reason Donald Trump’s House GOP loyalists are suddenly attacking Liz Cheney

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney has been publicly criticizing Donald Trump on various issues for awhile now. It’s been difficult to tell if her sniping has harmed Trump’s approval rating, because it’s already being driven down by a number of other factors. Trump and his loyalists have mostly just ignored Cheney – until now.

Donald Trump still hasn’t said boo about Liz Cheney. But several of his fiercest House GOP loyalists ganged up on her on Monday in coordinated fashion – something they probably wouldn’t have done unless Trump was on board with it. It’s hard to imagine that they’re suddenly worried that her longtime attacks on Trump might be harming him. So why go after her?

It could just be that their pent up frustration has finally boiled over. After all, a lot of these House Republicans have married their own career prospects to those of Donald Trump, and now he’s dragging them down the tubes. But I suspect there’s more to it.

With Donald Trump’s numbers dropping, there are probably additional House Republicans who are considering coming out against Trump in the hope of selfishly salvaging their own carers. If Trump’s loyalists are trying to stop this trend in its tracks, the best way to do it would be to make an example out of the one House Republican who’s been criticizing Trump the most loudly, and that’s Liz Cheney. This all suggests that we’re on the verge of seeing more House Republicans throwing Trump under the bus. Stay tuned.
