It’s difficult to pinpoint precisely when Donald Trump’s day began due to the time zone differences involved in his overseas trip. But no matter what clock you go by, this has been one of the worst twenty-four hour periods for Donald Trump to date. And as it turns out, the day just got even worse for him. At various points today, the following things have occurred:

• Donald Trump gave a joint press conference with the Prime Minister of Israel in which he blurted out additional intel about Israel while trying to convince the reporters in the room that he hadn’t given Israel’s classified to the Russians the week before – which we covered here

• It came to light that after FBI Director James Comey publicly announced the ongoing investigation into the Trump campaign and Russia, shortly thereafter Trump called up NSA Director Mike Rogers and unsuccessfully tried to convince him to lie to the public in a manner which would have sabotaged Comey’s investigation. Instead, the NSA wrote memos about the incident – which the Washington Post covered here

• Trump’s former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn announced he’s pleading the fifth in the Russia scandal, which the public is interpreting as a de facto admission of guilt for both Flynn and Trump when it comes to the court of public opinion – which we covered here

• Two other former Trump campaign advisers, Paul Manafort and Roger Stone, decided to turn over documents from the Russia scandal to the Senate Intel Committee – essentially selling him out in order to protect their own legal interests – which we covered here

And yet despite all of that, things just got even worse. This morning I wrote that the Senate Intel Committee could still theoretically hold Michael Flynn in contempt for refusing to turn over Trump-Russia documents (link). Sure enough, now the ranking member of the committee is publicly talking about the possibility of actually doing it. So there’s at least a chance, although the odds are still ill-defined, that we’ll end up seeing Flynn in handcuffs before long.
