Donald Trump is mailing it in
Poor “president” Donald Trump. Following his disaster in Tulsa, he returned to what he does best: Lying. Trump is now railing (again) about mail-in ballots. The Independent believes that Trump is reacting to falling farther in the polls. That is likely not the only thing troubling Trump right now, but his continued insistence that voting by mail includes something untoward — even though he has done it himself — is just sign of his insanity.
Trump claims that voting by mail will be dominated by “foreign countries and others” to ensure his loss. Trump tweeted: “RIGGED 2020 ELECTION. MILLIONS OF MAIL-IN BALLOTS WILL BE PRINTED BY FOREIGN COUNTRIES, AND OTHERS. IT WILL BE THE SCANDAL OF OUR TIMES!” The use of all caps gives but a mere insight into the twisted nature of Trump’s brain, but his claims take away all doubt. Just how foreign countries will get possession of mail-in ballots and mail them with a U.S. postmark only makes sense in Trump’s head.
Not surprisingly, Trump is not alone in his insanity. The Independent reported that Bill Barr appeared on Fox News on Sunday to claim that foreign countries “could print up tens of thousands of counterfeit ballots.” What is really going on here? Could Trump and Barr be setting up a story to explain why Trump loses 2020? Only Trump’s listless followers will believe that. What if he wins? Will he claim the election was rigged against Biden? Hardly.
Why is Trump complaining so bitterly when Mike Pence and “Mother” voted in the primaries by mail? Business Insider reported that, to make matters worse, the Pences used the governor’s mansion as their address — a residence they vacated in 2016. This is merely more of Trump wanting his cake and eating it too. In fact, according to CNN, Trump is lying about the entire issue. CNN has already debunked this theory, and that was further supported by election officials. David Becker, founder of the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation and research, told CNN: “That info is FALSE.”
Becker further said that zero evidence exists to support Trump’s claims and that states have protections in place that prevent rigging. Michael McDonald, political scientist and leader of the United States Election Project echoes Becker’s statements. McDonald said, “The legally valid (ballots) printed by election officials have many safeguards to protect against fraudulent voting.” CNN also pointed out that it is more likely that voters will not receive their mail-in ballots timely, which happened in Georgia’s recent primary.
Trump and his campaign welcomed foreign interference in 2016, and Bolton’s book alleges that he sought help from both Ukraine and China for the 2020 election. As long as the interference was benefitting Trump, he was all for it. Now, he is suddenly fearful that mail-in ballots are some sort of plot against him. The only plot against Donald Trump is the plot to get him out of the White House. Given that coronavirus shows no signs of slowing down, mail-in ballots are a must for most eligible voters. Trump knows what that means: He will be packing for his military escort out of the White House.
