Donald Trump has got to be worried about what #SCOTUS just did to him
From the start, Palmer Report has pointed out that Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts doesn’t vote based on what he thinks the Constitution says, or even based on his own conservative ideology. Instead he votes based on whatever he thinks will make him the key swing vote, thus allowing him to be the power broker on the court, forcing both sides to pander to him going forward.
Roberts did it again this morning when he and Neil Gorsuch joined the four liberals in ruling that LGBT employees are protected under federal workplace discrimination laws. In other words, you can no longer be fired in America simply for being gay or transgender. This is landmark ruling – and it comes just days after Donald Trump made a major move against the LGBT community by eliminating patient protections.
It’s the latest reminder that while we can’t trust John Roberts to do the right thing, Donald Trump can’t trust Roberts to do the wrong thing. Roberts is a wildcard, and no one has any way of predicting how he’ll rule on Trump’s tax returns. At a time when Trump is already way behind in the polls and can’t afford yet another scandal, he now has to worry that there’s a 50-50 chance Roberts will hand his tax returns to the House, and to the New York grand jury that’s in the process of criminally indicting him.
