Judge Sullivan scores big win over Bill Barr in Michael Flynn case
With everything else that’s going on, it’s easy to forget that Donald Trump and Bill Barr are still trying to keep convicted criminal Michael Flynn from going to prison. Barr had the DOJ drop the case against Flynn, even though Flynn pleaded guilty and confessed in detail. But Judge Emmet Sullivan isn’t having any of it, and he’s been fighting back. Today he scored a major victory.
Judge Sullivan appointed retired Judge John Gleeson to essentially take over the prosecution and issue an opinion on whether the DOJ should be allowed to drop the case against Michael Flynn. Gleeson has now released his findings, and the whole thing is essentially one bigs catching expose on Bill Barr’s corrupt antics in the case.
This is going to give Judge Sullivan significant leverage when it comes to fending off further attempts on the part of Barr and Flynn at subverting the legal system. It increases the odds that Sullivan will end up being able to send Flynn to prison in the end. And it could leave Donald Trump in the no-win position of having to decide whether to pardon Flynn, which would hurt him in the polls, or let Flynn rot in prison, which could prompt Flynn to cut a deal against him.
