Donald Trump and Bill Barr apparently have armed guards from the Bureau of Prisons patrolling the streets of Washington DC
Over the past day and a half, armed uniformed personnel have been patrolling the streets of Washington DC, while refusing to identify who they are, instead merely insisting that they’re working for the Department of Justice. It’s raised a lot of questions about what’s really going on here. Now we’re getting some answers.
On-site reporters from multiple major news outlets, including NBC’s Garrett Haake, have confirmed that at least some of these personnel are guards from the Bureau of Prisons. That’s nothing short of maniacal. These are guards who are accustomed to working in an environment where inmates have very limited rights, and “peacekeeping” means something very different than it does in a civilian environment.
Of course with the armed personnel on the streets of DC dressed in such a mismatched combination of uniforms and patches, it’s likely that only some of them are from the Bureau of Prisons, and that some of them are from other still-unidentified entities. Of course this means there’s little to no accountability for these personnel, since no one knows who they are or where they’re coming from.
Donald Trump and Bill Barr can’t do this in any of the fifty states, because the governors won’t allow it. But they’re rapidly turning Washington DC into a post-apocalyptic hellhole that isn’t safe for anyone.
