General James Mattis rips Donald Trump to pieces
Back when General James Mattis resigned as Donald Trump’s Secretary of Defense, he said that he wouldn’t publicly criticize Trump unless things got so awful that he felt he had no choice. After the horrifying events of the past week, Mattis has apparently decided that the time has arrived. He’s finally ripping Trump to pieces, and is it ever a doozy.
In a lengthy statement, General Mattis says that Donald Trump is the first President in his lifetime who “tries to divide us” and that “we are witnessing the consequences of three years of this deliberate effort. We are witnessing the consequences of three years without mature leadership.”
Mattis specifically condemns Trump for violating the rights of the peaceful protesters outside the White House for the sake of a “bizarre photo op.” This is nothing that scores of others haven’t already said. What makes it different is that it’s coming from Donald Trump’s own former Secretary of Defense, who has long made clear that he didn’t want to have to speak out like this.
Remarkably, General Mattis goes on to talk about how “we can unite without [Trump]” but it “will not be easy.” It sounds to us like Mattis is talking about a post-Trump future after Donald Trump loses the election. While there is no specific mention of the election, this almost feels like an endorsement for Joe Biden in November.
