Admiral Mike Mullen drops the hammer on Donald Trump
Donald Trump isn’t even close to having the muscle that he’s now trying to flex. That always leads to blowback. For instance, Trump’s decision to use the military to tear gas peaceful protesters last night, just so he could stage a photo op, has been widely condemned. Now a respected military figure is firing back at Trump over the vile stunt.
Admiral Mike Mullen, the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, wrote an op-ed published in the Atlantic today. He said that up to now he’s hesitated to speak publicly about Donald Trump, but that last night’s debacle prompted him to speak out:
Whatever Trump’s goal in conducting his visit, he laid bare his disdain for the rights of peaceful protest in this country, gave succor to the leaders of other countries who take comfort in our domestic strife, and risked further politicizing the men and women of our armed forces.
It’s notable that Admiral Mullen twice referred to the incident as a “stunt.” Donald Trump may think he’s conveying strength, but Mullen is correct in that he’s merely conveying weakness.
