Donald Trump’s supposed murder of “Carolyn Gombell” sets Twitter ablaze
Earlier today Twitter announced that it’s not taking any action against Donald Trump for his ongoing tweets which falsely accuse “Morning Joe” Scarborough of having murdered a woman. In response, a popular account called “The Tweet of God” has posted a lengthy and detailed allegation that Donald Trump murdered a woman named Carolyn Gombell in October 2000.
Let’s be clear here: there is no Carolyn Gombell. All you have to do is search Google to confirm that her name never existed anywhere on the internet prior to today. Even if she were murdered and it were somehow covered up, her birth and death records wouldn’t magically go away; this isn’t the movies. So no, Donald Trump couldn’t have murdered this woman, because she never existed to begin with. But that appears to be the point.
Best we can tell, “God” has sarcastically posted this “Carolyn Gombell” story in order to demonstrate that anyone can accuse anyone of anything until Twitter clamps down on the false murder accusations that Donald Trump keeps spewing. The kicker is that even though most observers appear to understand that Carolyn Gombell isn’t even real, the hashtag #JusticeForCarolyn is already trending atop Twitter, as everyone sarcastically demands that her “murder” be investigated.
We’ll see how Twitter decides to handle this. But if they delete the murder allegations being tweeted by The Tweet of God, won’t they also have to delete the murder allegations being tweeted by Donald Trump? This could get interesting fast.
