President Obama just came out swinging at Donald Trump

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Multiple major news outlets are reporting today that President Obama has called Donald Trump’s handling of the coronavirus crisis an “absolute chaotic disaster” behind the scenes. But make no mistake, Obama is making a point of getting his remarks out there publicly, in clever fashion.

The way the story is being widely reported, President Barack Obama made private remarks about Donald Trump during a conference call, and then โ€“ shocker โ€“ those remarks somehow unexpectedly leaked into public view. Here’s a hint: nothing works that way, at least not when you’re as smart and savvy and meticulous as Obama is.

So here’s what almost certainly really happened. President Obama decided that it was time to publicly hit back at Donald Trump over his terrible handling of the coronavirus crisis. But Obama didn’t want to simply hold a speech and denounce Trump while the crisis is still going on, for fear that the on-the-fence voters in the middle might see it as too opportunistic.

So instead Obama made the remarks on a conference call, where he knew without a doubt that they’d be leaked, thus allowing the public to see it as some kind of accidental leak, instead of some kind of craven attack. Now that Obama’s remarks are out there, he’s in the clear to start saying the same thing publicly. It’s the latest reminder of why Obama is smarter than Donald Trump will ever be.
