Donald Trump’s new “fifteen day period” is dangerous beyond words

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $2097 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,
Bill Palmer

Last night Donald Trump announced that he was waiting until the end of the “fifteen day period” before evaluating things. This created a whole lot of confusion: what fifteen day period? Today we’ve gotten some more context, and it turns out Trump is talking about something incredibly reckless and desperate.

The Trump regime is looking at the possibility of urging people to end their quarantines and go back to their usual routines fifteen days from now, regardless of how the coronavirus crisis is playing out by that time. It’s clear what Trump is trying to do. The U.S. economy is in freefall because so many people aren’t going to work, and because so many people aren’t going out and spending their money with businesses.

Trump is pushing the notion that we should all just go back to business as usual in fifteen days, even if it means we start spreading the coronavirus at a higher rate. This is dangerous beyond words. Trump will have a hard time making this happen, because governors can override him. But at that point Trump will probably try to argue that it’s the Democrats who are killing the economy by encouraging everyone to stay home. This guy needs to be removed via the 25th Amendment right now.
