After the polls closed, it took MSNBC about seventeen seconds to call Mississippi in favor of Joe Biden, to give you an idea of just how massive of a blowout victory the state was for him. It took MSNBC seventeen minutes to call Missouri for Joe Biden. This means that he probably didn’t win it by quite as large of a margin as he won Mississippi, but he did win Missouri in some kind of blowout.

How bad is the math for Bernie Sanders? Steve Kornacki says that Sanders will meet the minimum threshold in Missouri to pick up some delegates. That’s how low the bar is; they’re having to confirm that Sanders isn’t going to get zero out of the state. Worse for him, there’s no indication yet as to whether Sanders will meet the minimum in Mississippi.

This means that Joe Biden will end up with the majority of the delegates awarded today, no matter how Michigan and Washington go. Those two states have large delegate hauls. But even if Sanders wins them both, it’ll be by close margins, meaning the delegates there will be split nearly evenly.

That said, the media is going to focus on Michigan in particular tonight. Joe Biden would do well to win Michigan, in order to put to rest any narrative about Sanders hanging in there.
