Donald Trump picked the worst possible time to return to New York City

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Donald Trump has spent the entirety of his presidency avoiding his home of New York City, even as he’s instead spent signification vacation time at his properties in multiple other states. It’s led to some theories about why Trump has been dodging New York amid growing criminal scandals and investigations. But today he went home – and it turns out he picked the worst time possible.

The catch-22 for Donald Trump and the Republican Party is that they got into their current position by promising to repeal ObamaCare and magically replace it with something superior, even though they never bothered to come up with a replacement plan because they never thought they’d control the Congressional and Executive Branch simultaneously. That called bluff has led to massive and often bipartisan pushback at town halls, and forced the GOP to craft the rushed AHCA bill, which makes every aspect of ObamaCare worse and benefits no one.

Today the House Republicans managed to just barely pass the second iteration of their AHCA, which is by all accounts even worse than the first, because they’re stuck not being sure whether they’ll catch more hell in the midterms by replacing ObamaCare with something worse or by not replacing ObamaCare. This has set off a national firestorm which now sets up the Senate vote on the AHCA as one of the most pivotal moments in American history, with tens of millions of people facing a potential death sentence if the AHCA becomes law. And this just happens to be the day in which Donald Trump decided to go back home to Manhattan, where he has always been despised by most of the locals, who view him as a financial fraud.

So Donald Trump was going to face ugly crowds of fierce protesters today in New York City no matter what, with this being the first time he’s had the guts to go home. But those protests were far more inspired and assertive thanks to the AHCA passing in the House just hours earlier. The historically massive pushback against Trump, which has been in effect since the day he illegitimately became President, took on a new focus today: the AHCA must die in the Senate. And those anti-AHCA protests will be centered around Trump specifically, because he’s the menace who has allowed the GOP to run wild with this horrific legislation.

And Trump picked the worst possible time to deface his hometown by daring to set foot in it while pretending to be President. After all, Trump of all people should know you don’t screw with New Yorkers. Every minute of his time there this week will be met with the fiercest protests yet, at a time when his approval rating is already historically low. Help fund Palmer Report
