Speaker Nancy Pelosi explains why she ripped up her copy of Donald Trump’s speech

Dear Palmer Report readers,

We all understand what a dark era we're heading into. Journalists will be prosecuted. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. Advertising networks can't be counted on. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight, because someone has to.

In that regard we're looking to start funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens or how dark things get. We've launched a reader supported fund, and we've already raised $3360 and counting. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can contribute here. Thank you in advance.
Sincerely,

Just before Donald Trump gave his State of the Union address tonight, he refused to shake hands with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. Immediately after the speech was over, Pelosi took her printed copy of the speech and promptly began ripping it to pieces. Why did she do it? What was her intended statement, beyond the obvious?

It turns out you don’t have to wonder, because Speaker Pelosi ended up leaving no doubt. After the whole thing was over, Fox News asked her why she ripped up the speech. Pelosi’s response: “Because it was the courteous thing to do considering the alternatives.”

That says it all, doesn’t it? Donald Trump speech was a bunch of lying, toxic garbage. The speech belongs in the garbage, though we’re sure Nancy Pelosi made a point of recycling the paper afterward. In any case, Pelosi is making clear that she’s willing to bait Trump into playing by her rules.

If tonight’s prevailing narrative is that he refused to shake her hand and she ripped up his speech, then it’ll mean the things Trump tried to advance in his speech won’t get covered. And she doesn’t have to care if she looks presidential, because she’s not running for president. Advantage Pelosi.
