It feels like just about everyone in Donald Trump’s orbit ends up arrested, indicted, convicted, imprisoned, or all of the above. That’s not coincidence, as Trump seeks out people he knows he can get to do his corrupt bidding, and criminals seek out Trump as an opportunity to expand their corrupt ambitions. Now we can officially add another name to the list.
Chris Collins was the very first House Republican to endorse Donald Trump when he launched his 2016 presidential campaign. He’s no longer in the House, because he was forced to resign after he was indicted for felony insider trading. He ended up pleading guilty, and today he was sentenced to twenty-six months in prison, according to several major news outlets.
Are we surprised to find out that Trump’s key House Republican ally has turned out to be a financial criminal? Of course not. Chris Collins is the kind of criminal who jumps at the opportunity to align himself with someone like Trump. As proof that Collins isn’t merely an aberration, Duncan Hunter, the second House Republican to endorse Trump, has also recently pleaded guilty to financial crimes and is about to be sentenced to prison. He won’t be the last.
