Many people who believe Donald Trump should not be President have been praising House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for her recent actions. Pelosi has led the House in impeaching Trump for his unconstitutional dealings with Ukraine, and she has refused to rush the articles to the Senate if it means we should expect a sham trial. Despite these diligent efforts, there is something more that Pelosi should be doing, according to a leading psychiatrist.

Dr. Bandy X. Lee, President of the World Mental Health Coalition, has long been sounding the alarm about the dire threat that Trump’s mental health imposes on the United States. Now, in light of Trump’s six-page maniacal letter that he sent to Pelosi before the impeachment vote, Dr. Lee is urging her to consider a different type of action against this “highly unwell” individual: a mental health hold.

“As a coworker, [Pelosi] has the right to have him submit to an involuntary evaluation,” Lee explained in a recent interview with Salon.com. “The advantage of a coworker starting this process is that a court can mandate a mental capacity evaluation before the dangerous person returns to work.” Not only does Lee suggest that a mental health hold is necessary for Trump, but she believes that it “will become inevitable.” Lee also warned that Pelosi’s delay in delivering the impeachment articles to the Senate could turn Trump into an even more deranged monster.

One day, hopefully soon, Trump will no longer be barking orders from inside the Oval Office. When that day comes, it is hard to imagine that Trump will simply hand things over to the 46th President with grace and gravitas. On the contrary, Trump is likely to leave the White House in handcuffs or a straitjacket. The way things are going, it may just be both.
