Rudy Giuliani has been having a pretty terrible twenty-four hours. First ABC News reported that Lev Parnas gave recordings of Rudy and Donald Trump to the House impeachment inquiry. Then the Washington Post reported that federal prosecutors are seeking to follow the money from Parnas and Igor Fruman, through Rudy, to a major pro-Trump Super PAC. Now there’s even more direct bad news for Rudy.

Grand jury subpoenas have gone out to a number of Rudy Giuliani’s associates, demanding all documents and communications they’ve had with Rudy, and with Rudy’s consulting firm, according to a report this evening from Reuters. The subpoena says that the potential crimes involved include not just campaign finance violations as expected, but also money laundering, wire fraud, obstruction of justice, and a boatload of other serious charges.

Let’s be as clear as possible here: grand juries only exist for one reason, which is to criminally indict people. These subpoenas make clear that this grand jury is targeting Rudy Giuliani for criminal indictment. Prosecutors nearly always get the grand jury indictments they’re looking for. An indictment doesn’t mean a person is guilty, but it means the person gets arrested and criminally charged. It’s now clear that Rudy is going to be indicted and arrested. The only question is when.
