Donald Trump got humiliated tonight when Kentucky’s Republican Governor Matt Bevin lost his reelection bid after Trump held a high profile last-minute rally for him. Trump has damaged the GOP so badly that Republicans are now losing in red states, and Trump himself is so radioactive that his rally seemed to hurt Bevin.

Donald Trump hasn’t tweeted anything yet about his party’s loss in Kentucky, or about the overall trend that also saw the Democrats take control of the Virginia House and Senate tonight. But Trump’s 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale sent out a statement to the media just now, and there are almost no words for how cartoonishly delusional it is.

Parscale is claiming that “The President just about dragged Gov. Matt Bevin across the finish line” in what is clearly a dig at Bevin. Parscale is also telling a flat out lie about Bevin having finished “stronger than expected” when in reality Bevin ended up finishing worse than where he had been polling ahead of his rally with Trump.

It’s clear that Donald Trump’s babysitters are going to try to keep him from going into a dejected tailspin by telling Trump that he somehow helped Bevin, when in reality that’s simply not what happened. At this point it appears the “Trump 2020 campaign” is less about trying to find a way to win, and more about trying to prevent an increasingly fragile Donald Trump’s feelings from getting hurt as everything falls apart for him.
