Roger Stone hides in the bathroom on the first day of his criminal trial

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller may be long gone from the job, but his final criminal case (that we know of) has finally come to trial. Roger Stone, who was arrested in early 2019 and charged with a variety of felony charges, saw his trial proceedings begin today. Everything involving Stone tends to end up being cartoonish and strange, and thus far his trial is living up to that promise.

Early in the trial process today, an unnamed man had a seizure, bringing a delay in courtroom proceedings. Strangely, when this was playing out, Roger Stone had already left the courtroom. Megan Mineiro of Courthouse News says that Stone had “walked out sweating just minutes before accompanied by his wife.” Later she added that “Stone is still in the bathroom, after exiting the courtroom sweating over half an hour ago. Overheard his wife asking if he was ok about 15mins ago.”

This led Caroline Orr from National Observer to tweet this quip: “So a recess was called at Roger Stone’s trial after a man screamed and started seizing in the courtroom. Separately, Roger Stone apparently hid in the bathroom for over 30 min, and his wife was overheard asking if he was okay. A very normal start to jury selection.”

Caroline Orr has a history with Roger Stone, of course. One night Stone began tweeting gender slurs and threats at a number of female political pundits, including Orr and CNN’s Ana Navarro. Stone ended up being banned for life. Now he’s in danger of going to prison for the rest of his life.
