Grand jury just made a major move toward indicting Rudy Giuliani

Last night the news broke that federal investigators have already obtained and studied Rudy Giuliani’s bank records in relation to his Ukraine scandal, meaning they’re a lot further along the path toward indicting and arresting Giuliani than we knew. Now the grand jury in the case just made a major move.

A federal grand jury has issued a subpoena to former Republican Congressman Pete Sessions, according to a report tonight from the Wall Street Journal. This is crucial for a few reasons. First, when the SDNY arrested Rudy Giuliani’s two Ukraine scandal associates last week, the indictment alleged that they donated a large sum of foreign money to Sessions’ campaign in exchange for Sessions sending a letter urging Donald Trump to fire U.S. Ambassador Marie Yovanovitch. So we know this is about the Ukraine scandal.

Second, this means Pete Sessions can’t be the target of the grand jury, because you can’t be compelled to testify against yourself. Sessions is being treated as a witness who has the opportunity to remain in the clear by cooperating. So who’s being targeted for indictment here? It can’t be Rudy’s two stooges, because they were just indicted. This can only possibly mean that this federal grand jury is targeting Rudy Giuliani for criminal indictment.

This doesn’t tell us when Rudy Giuliani’s arrest will come. Pete Sessions could be the final witness ahead of indictment, or there could be more witnesses to come. But it’s more clear than ever that Rudy is going down – and that the process of taking him down is a lot closer to the end than the beginning.
