Mike Pence is going down too
In hindsight, it was all over for Mike Pence last week when Donald Trump used his press conference to repeatedly ask the media to look into Pence’s role in the Ukraine whistleblower scandal. As of tonight, there’s no longer any real doubt that Pence is going down with Trump.
Tonight we all learned that Mike Pence played a key role in Donald Trump’s scheme to use the withholding of military aid to extort the President of Ukraine into helping rig the 2020 election in Trump’s favor. There’s enough in this Washington Post bombshell to prove that Pence was knee deep in the scandal. In a sign that Pence knows he’s hosed, he’s already falling back to the defense that sure, he was in on it, but he was too naive and stupid to realize what it was really all about.
That’s not a political defense from Pence, it’s a legal defense. It’s the kind of obvious BS you float when you know you’re caught, and you’re merely hoping to come up with something that might give you just enough reasonable doubt to avoid being found guilty by a jury, even though no one on the jury really believes you. This means Pence is already more focused on trying to stay out of prison than on trying to keep his political viability intact. But it gets even worse for Pence.
The Washington Post article is obviously sourced to Team Trump. This means that, at a time when Donald Trump needs to turn one of the big names in his regime into a scapegoat and oust that person accordingly, the Trump regime has decided that Mike Pence is it. We have no idea if Pence will look at where this is heading and cut some kind of immunity deal to testify against Trump, or if Pence will sit back and get impeached too. Either way, Pence is going down with Trump.
