Now we know why Adam Schiff knew right where to look
When House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff first began loudly sounding the alarm last month about a whistleblower complaint, no one had any idea what he was talking about. Schiff is a smart and savvy guy, so we all figured he must have been onto something big, but it raised the question of why he was treating the complaint like it was for all the marbles.
It turns out the whistleblower told Adam Schiff’s staffers about the general parameters of the whistleblower’s story before the the complaint was even filed. This is according to a remarkable new story published this afternoon by the New York Times, which reveals that the whistleblower approached the House Intel Committee seeking guidance on how to properly proceed with filing his complaint.
Donald Trump may try to spin this as some imaginary violation of protocol, but by all accounts, it’s considered standard procedure. This story helps explain why Adam Schiff knew from the start about this whistleblower complaint, knew that it was crucial, and knew where to look for it.
Adam Schiff still deserves props for having recognized the importance of the Ukraine scandal when the whistleblower first came to him, and for making sure it became the top investigative priority for House Democrats. This also means that Schiff and Nancy Pelosi have been several steps ahead of this scandal all along, and that they may still know things about it that haven’t yet become public. Donald Trump doesn’t have a chance.
