Corey Lewandowski just folded

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Last month, before the whole impeachment thing began, Donald Trump’s former campaign manager Corey Lewandowski showed up to testify before the House about Trump’s obstruction scandals. Lewandowski spent his testimony acting belligerently, and during one of the breaks, he tweeted that he was launching his 2020 campaign for Senate in New Hampshire.

Maybe you saw this coming, but just weeks later, it looks like Corey Lewandowski is already giving up on his Senate bid. He just said that it’s fair to say that he might not run – and when you talk like that just a few weeks after you launched your campaign, it means it’s already over. Lewandowski says he’s folding up the tent because his top priority is to help get Donald Trump reelected in 2020, which is hilarious both because Lewandowski was fired from the last Trump campaign, and because Trump’s worsening whistleblower scandal means he may not even get the chance to run in 2020.

There are a few things to be gleaned here, beyond rubbing Corey Lewandowski’s failure in his face. For starters, Donald Trump loudly threw his weight behind Lewandowski’s 2020 campaign on Twitter, and that clearly didn’t help Lewandowski at all. So much for the notion that Trump, who is now completely crippled by his own toxic unpopularity and worsening impeachment-level scandals, is still some kind of Republican kingmaker.

In addition, this should serve as a reminder that there never are any happy endings for Donald Trump’s underlings. Paul Manafort and Michael Cohen are in prison. Michael Flynn is headed there. Roger Stone is awaiting trial. Numerous Trump advisers are caught up in the whistleblower scandal and are facing criminal exposure. Corey Lewandowski should be relieved that he’s simply left with egg on his face.
