Donald Trump’s former Homeland Security Advisor just came out swinging against him

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. As more information has emerged over the past week about the sheer extent of Donald Trump’s crimes against the United States, and impeachment has moved along at a swift pace, we’ve been waiting to see who in Trump’s orbit might decide to do the right thing and publicly come out against him. That’s been something of a lonely wait. But today, one of Trump’s own key former White House officials just came out swinging at him.

Tom Bossert served as Donald Trump’s Homeland Security Advisor from early 2017 to mid 2018 (not to be confused with the United States Secretary of Homeland Security). Bossert may not exactly be a household name, but he nonetheless held a crucial position within the Trump White House and within the U.S. government. He’s had enough of Trump’s antics, to put it mildly.

When Tom Bossert appeared on ABC This Week this morning, he expressed how “deeply disturbed” he is over Donald Trump’s attempt at extorting the president of Ukraine into helping him promote a phony scandal about Joe Biden. More to the point, Bossert slammed Trump and Rudy Giuliani for spreading the “completely debunked” fake Biden scandal. Bossert thinks the whole thing is “going to bring [Trump] down” if he doesn’t immediately knock it off.

This is a big deal because Tom Bossert is the kind of guy who’s respected in Republican political circles. He’s also breaking the ice in a sense. Donald Trump is so spun around right now, and is playing defense on so many fronts, he probably won’t even get around to attacking Bossert for it. That’ll send a signal to other influential people in Trump’s orbit that they can get away with coming out against him.
