Now that Michael Flynn says he’s willing to testify in Donald Trump’s Russia scandal in exchange for immunity, it’s raising a number of skeptical eyebrows from those who wonder about his intentions. If he really offering to give testimony and evidence incriminating Trump, as would surely be required in any such immunity deal? Or is this all merely part of some increasingly desperate ruse to prevent the investigation from deepening?

Here’s a tidbit tweeted by political pundit Jester, who tends to be quite insightful in his analysis despite his playful nickname. He dug up an older tweet from Robert Kelner, the attorney representing Mike Flynn who sent the immunity request letter to Congress and the FBI. Back in November, Kelner made what may now be a foreshadowing statement:

In case Robert Kelner ends up deleting this tweet and causing the above markup to disappear, it reads “A prediction: Donald Trump will make novel and unusual use of the President’s pardon power. An under-utilized tool of political power” and we have a screen capture of it. So just what was Kelner intimating?

Some skeptics have posited that Mike Flynn may be only asking for immunity to he can pull a fast one and testify in Donald Trump’s defense instead, in a last ditch effort at making the scandal go away for them both. That wouldn’t work, as such a stunt would void Flynn’s immunity deal and he’d be right back to facing criminal charges. But why was Flynn’s lawyer making predictions about Trump pardoning people just a few days after the election, back before Flynn incriminated himself by making his phone calls to the Russian Ambassador?

Was this an overconfident assertion by Flynn’s attorney that Trump would pardon his loyal sidekick Flynn for whatever crimes he committed during the campaign? Was it a veiled public warning shot at Trump, reminding him that Flynn has the dirt to take him down if he doesn’t end up pardoning him for his crimes?

With the limited understanding we have right now of Mike Flynn’s true intent and motivation regarding his immunity request, it’s difficult to parse just what Flynn’s attorney was specifically alluding to in his November tweet. But as the Flynn immunity storyline develops, the above tweet may be crucial to keep in the back of your mind. Before long, I suspect it’ll make perfect sense one way or the other.
