Nancy Pelosi will publicly call for Donald Trump’s impeachment later today: report

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

When uber-respected Democratic Congressman John Lewis publicly and emphatically called for Donald Trump’s impeachment earlier today, Palmer Report said that thisensured Trump would be impeached. Lewis is just that influential among House Democrats, and he wouldn’t publicly say something like that unless he thought Democratic House leaders were willing to go along with him.

Sure enough, there’s now reporting out there that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will call for Donald Trump’s impeachment later today, and that she will announce a formal impeachment inquiry as well. This is coming from NBC News analyst Howard Fineman, who says he’s getting it from “very solid” sourcing within the Democratic House leadership, and we have no reason to doubt him on this. So now what?

As Palmer Report has been explaining all along, impeachment is a multi-layered process, and does not consist of the simple flick of the wrist. It becomes even more complicated by the fact that, as things stand today, the Republican Senate is obviously not looking to oust Trump. That means House Democrats have to put on a show with their impeachment process, in order to convince the public that Trump absolutely must be removed – thus forcing Senate Republicans to think about how their own personal odds of reelection might be affected by whatever they end up doing to Trump.

In any case, the House Democratic caucus has a meeting scheduled about impeachment for 4pm eastern time today. Once that meeting is over, we’ll surely see Nancy Pelosi and the top committee chairs make a public statement about what’s specifically happening next. If Fineman’s source is indeed correct, and Pelosi is planning to come out swinging in favor of impeachment… buckle up.
