John Bolton fires back at Donald Trump after getting fired

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Earlier today, Donald Trump announced on Twitter that he had forced his National Security Adviser John Bolton to resign (translation: he fired him). Trump then went on to criticize Bolton’s job performance, making clear that he resented the guy. It turns out John Bolton has some things to say about this, and he’s saying them already.

Trump posted this tweet: “I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions, as did others in the Administration, and therefore I asked John for his resignation, which was given to me this morning. I thank John very much for his service. I will be naming a new National Security Advisor next week.“

Shortly afterward, John Bolton began texting Fox News host Brian Kilmeade, disputing Trump’s version of events. Bolton claims that he actually offered his resignation to Trump last night, as opposed to Trump’s claim that he forced Bolton to resign.

Trump and Bolton have both proven themselves to be disreputable liars, so we have no reason to believe either of them. Nor do we necessarily care how Trump and Bolton parted ways. But what does stand out here is that there’s clear resentment in both directions here, and that they’re both choosing to make the parting of ways ugly in public.

This fits in with what Palmer Report explained when Donald Trump first announced John Bolton’s ouster. CNN reported yesterday that Mike Pence and Bolton both opposed Trump’s Camp David Taliban meeting, and that leak could only have come from Pence and Bolton. This ugly firing was Trump’s way of firing back. He can’t fire Pence, so he’s firing Bolton. The real story here is the escalating Trump vs Pence war.
