Kellyanne Conway has complete meltdown
Rather than simply trying to rectify the mistakes he’s made that are sending the U.S. economy off a cliff, Donald Trump is doubling down on the notion that he’s an economic genius and the economy is doing fantastically. Because Trump is largely afraid to face reporters directly, he’s been sending out a series of surrogates to push his propaganda. It’s not going well for him, or for them.
Yesterday we saw Donald Trump’s economic adviser Larry Kudlow, whose prognostications have been so consistently wrong over the years that you could probably make a bundle on the stock market just by listening to whatever he says and then doing the opposite, crashed and burned on television yesterday. Today it was Kellyanne Conway’s turn to try, and let’s just say that she promptly stepped in it.
Kellyanne said this to the television cameras today: “The fundamentals of our economy are very strong.” As several observers have pointed out across social media, we’ve heard almost these exact words before. During the 2008 election, John McCain said “The fundamentals of the economy are strong” while the economy was in the process of collapsing. The difference is that McCain meant well and was trying to be reassuring, whereas Kellyanne is just trying to dishonestly cover for Trump’s gross negligence. Either way, tying yourself to one of McCain’s most unfortunate moments is no way to go through life.
Then it got worse, because when the Donald Trump regime is involved, it always does. Kellyanne Conway also claimed today that anti-fascism protest group Antifa is short for “anti-First Amendment.” No one is even sure if this was an ignorant joke, or if she was lying, or if she really doesn’t know what it stands for. That tends to be the case when you’re dealing with someone who has no concept of what truth even is.
