Donald Trump’s GOP pal Steve King circles the drain

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Just how racist is GOP Congressman Steve King? Well, he’s close pals with Donald Trump, which tells you a lot. The things he says are so over-the-top racist, even his own increasingly racist Republican Party has taken minor steps to distance itself from him. Now King is taking things in a whole different kind of ugly direction – and this time it looks like it might actually finish him off.

Steve King already lost his House committee assignments in January, due to remarks he made about white supremacy. To this day, King’s official website simply lists his committee assignments as “to be determined.” So with nothing to do in Congress, what has he been doing with his time? Unfortunately it looks like he’s been using the extra time to come up with new kinds of horrible things to say.

Here’s what Steve King said in Iowa today while trying to defend banning abortion even in cases of rape and incest, according to the Des Moines Register: “What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?” Oh come on man, this guy’s got to resign – and it’s not just us who see it this way.

Senator Cory Booker and Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, among others, are now calling for Steve King to resign. Of course, Democratic Senators can’t oust a Republican from the House of their own accord. But Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney also just called for King to resign. If the GOP sees King as a liability heading into 2020, there’s good reason to expect that the party might actually shove King out the back door this time – if only in the name of its own self preservation. If Steve King does make it to 2020, his Democratic opponent is JD Scholten.
