So much for Donald Trump’s day of unity in El Paso

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

In the hours and days since his rhetoric led to a white supremacist mass shooting in El Paso, Donald Trump was largely keeping quiet – which was the best thing he could have done. Trump (or more likely his handlers) posted occasional genetic yet conciliatory tweets, and he tepidly gave a speech in which he pretended to draw a line against racism.

But now the real Donald Trump is quickly reemerging. It began last night when Trump had a midnight meltdown about presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke, who is from the El Paso area. Today, Trump made things even worse. While on his way to El Paso, when any normal person in his position would have been focused on preparing for his visit, Trump was apparently instead watching cable news.

Trump couldn’t handle the fact that presidential candidate Joe Biden’s speech in Iowa was getting significant TV airtime, and so Trump posted this tweet: “Watching Sleepy Joe Biden making a speech. Sooo Boring! The LameStream Media will die in the ratings and clicks with this guy. It will be over for them, not to mention the fact that our Country will do poorly with him. It will be one big crash, but at least China will be happy!” Trump then went on to attack Ohio Senator Sherrod Brown, the Mayor of Dayton, and a number of news outlets.

That’s right, at a time when Donald Trump is suddenly trying to position himself as some kind of unifying figure, he’s busy launching vicious personal attacks on just about everyone. Trump is who he is. Shame on any media outlet that gave him cover earlier this week when he was briefly pretending not to be a psychotic racist.
