Mitch McConnell just got ratioed

There’s a concept on Twitter called “getting ratioed.” It refers to posting a tweet so objectionable, you end up getting more (mostly negative) comments than likes. On a day like this one, when innocent people died in an El Paso Walmart, social media shouldn’t be about likes and numbers – but there’s no more clear signal that a public figure screwed up their response to the mass shooting.

For instance, take the tweet from Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell: “The entire nation is horrified by today’s senseless violence in El Paso. Elaine’s and my prayers go out to the victims of this terrible violence, their families and friends, and the brave first responders who charged into harm’s way.”

That might have been a nice sentiment, if it were coming from someone who meant it. But McConnell is an NRA puppet, and he’s gone to great lengths to enable Donald Trump, who routinely pushes white supremacist rhetoric. McConnell’s corruption went a long way toward making the El Paso shooting happen, and he won’t lift a finger to try to prevent the next white nationalist mass shooting.

Accordingly, Mitch McConnell ended up getting ratioed pretty badly, with 36,000 mostly negative comments and just 12,000 likes at the time of publication of this article. Again, a day like this isn’t about the numbers themselves. Instead, it’s a clear sign that McConnell couldn’t be any more off the mark, both when it comes to his corrupt nature to begin with, and his refusal to do anything about what’s happening.
