Donald Trump fired U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara today, after previously having personally asked him to remain on the job for the new administration. There are a number of potential motives for why Trump changed his mind, ranging from his Russia scandal, to his financial scandals, to his buddy Sean Hannity. But this much is known: Trump’s top choice to replace Bharara is Marc Mukasey, the personal attorney for the longtime CEO of Fox News.

We know this because immediately after the election, when it was believed that Donald Trump would oust Obama appointee Preet Bharara, the New York Post announced that Trump’s short list to replace him included Marc Mukasey. It just so happens that the New York Post is owned by Fox News head honcho Rupert Murdoch. And it just so happens that Marc Mukasey is the longtime personal attorney for Roger Ailes, the longtime CEO of Fox News who was recently forced out amid a sexual harassment scandal, but who remains a close ally of Murdoch.

In other words, Fox News – which seems to be able to get Donald Trump to do anything it wants – already told us a little awhile ago who Bharara’s replacement will be. This is notable because just two days before Trump changed his mind and ousted Bharara, a watchdog group had asked Bharara to launch an investigation into Trump’s financial scandals and conflicts of interest. This is key because Bharara was the U.S. Attorney for Manhattan, where Trump lives and runs his businesses out of.

As we reported earlier today, Trump ousted Preet Bharara just one day after Fox News host Sean Hannity used his show to publicly urge Trump to purge Obama-era appointees. It just so happens that Bharara was investigating Fox News at the time of his firing, meaning that Fox itself now benefits greatly from Bharara’s departure. And Bharara also recently took down a Russian spy who had been living in New York, making him an enemy of the Kremlin, which Trump also seems to answer to. In other words, Trump had numerous personal reasons – none of them legitimate – for firing Bharara today.

But regardless of the specific trigger that caused Trump to change his mind and fire Preet Bharara today, Fox News mouthpiece New York Post already told us back in November that Fox News attorney Marc Mukasey would be his replacement. Barring a surprise change, look for Trump to nominate Mukasey shortly. And if so, his nomination must be fought tooth and nail. Because it’s Mukasey who would be tasked with investigating Trump’s financial crimes in New York City, or leaving them uninvestigated. Contribute to Palmer Report
