“President” Trump has done nothing that he promised voters he would do if elected to office. Likely the most egregious broken promise is his refusal to divest from his businesses. This alone should have told everyone what type of person was elected to the highest office in the country. Of course, most of us know why he refused to divest, and that is to continue to line his pockets with our money.
Trump is once again diverting campaign donations to his own use, according to the Huffington Post. This time, he’s paying rent in Trump Tower to compensate for all of the companies that have vacated the premises in droves. To balance his losses, Trump has been spending $37,500 per month of campaign money for office space in Trump Tower, and of course, some of that is going into his own fat pockets.
While he’s paying all this money for empty office space in Trump Tower, he also has thousands of square feet in northern Virginia that is virtually unused. Fortunately for his campaign contributors, the RNC is paying the rent in Virginia. Even though he has this perk, an insider told Huffington Post that he wants to keep the Trump Tower space because “they think it’s a valuable asset.” Whatever. Yet another former staffer followed up with “That value is obvious: at least in terms of Trump’s personal bank account.”
Erin Chlopak of the Campaign Legal Center advocacy group believes Trump’s use of campaign funds may be illegal, depending on whether the space is actually being used for campaign activities. At the very least, Chlopak said Trump’s actions are “shady.” Robert Weissman, President of Public Citizen, added “To have a purported billionaire taking money from people who are contributing in $10 and $20 increments … is pretty pathetic. But I guess not surprising.” No, nothing shady that Trump does is surprising. He is the biggest crook to ever darken the doorways of the White House. To show just how crooked this guy is, after he secured the GOP nomination and stopped self-funding his campaign, he upped the rent of his campaign office in Trump Tower from $35,458 per month to $169,758 per month. This is so despicable but again, is no surprise from this guy.
Perhaps even more shocking (and perhaps not, considering the source), “President” Trump immediately opened his re-election campaign account on the day of his inauguration in 2017. To put this in perspective, both Presidents Obama and Bush waited until their third year in office to open re-election accounts. Likely, because, unlike Trump, they had no personal plans for donor funds. In the first two years of his presidency, Trump spent $890,163 in campaign money in Trump Tower rent, $53,900 for rent in a nearby apartment he owns, and $42,225 for an apartment on Central Park South. Now, if all this doesn’t say what type of man Trump is, nothing will. If his supporters are aware that this is how their money is being spent and yet continue to support him, they truly are stupid.
