Donald Trump hits the panic button as his 2020 prospects go further off a cliff

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

With the stage set such that federal and state authorities will be fighting over who gets to arrest Donald Trump first once he’s no longer in office, his only hope of not getting locked up a year and a half from now is if he wins reelection in 2020, thus pushing off his inevitable prison sentence to 2024. The trouble for Trump: right now, at least, that plan is going horribly. Based on his panicked response today, Trump seems to know it.

Poll after poll this month shows Donald Trump on a path to losing in key swing states, and nationwide, against just about every Democratic opponent currently in contention. Even worse for Trump, he’s even further behind current frontrunner Joe Biden than he is the other Democratic candidates. A year and a half is a long time and a lot can happen in this election, but Trump is already in a hole and he knows it. So he’s doing what he does best: whining, lying, and spewing idiotic insults.

Trum took time out from his disastrous Asia trip to post this desperate tweet: “Anyone associated with the 1994 Crime Bill will not have a chance of being elected. In particular, African Americans will not be ble to vote for you. I, on the other hand, was responsible for Criminal Justice Reform, which had tremendous support, and helped fix the bad 1994 Bill!” To be clear, every word of this is a lie – except for “be ble” which isn’t a word at all.

The thing about the 1994 crime bill is that, whatever anyone thinks of it in hindsight, nearly everyone in government thought it was going to work when it was passed. Hillary Clinton was First Lady at the time her husband signed it into law, yet she got huge numbers of African American votes, whereas Donald Trump got virtually none. Joe Biden voted for the 1994 crime bill, but his current approval rating with African American voters is through the roof. Trump is clearly taking aim at Biden here, but it’s just wishful thinking on his part. Biden may or may not be the nominee, but Trump isn’t getting the black vote one way or the other.
