House Judiciary Committee hints at plan to make Donald Trump implode

Dear Palmer Report readers, we all understand the difficult era we're heading into. Major media outlets are caving to Trump already. Even the internet itself and publishing platforms may be at risk. But Palmer Report is nonetheless going to lead the fight. We're funding our 2025 operating expenses now, so we can keep publishing no matter what happens. I'm asking you to contribute if you can, because the stakes are just so high. You can donate here.

Even though they’re careful not to call it “impeachment” yet, House Democrats are moving steadily ahead with the impeachment process. They’re bringing in hostile witnesses like William Barr, followed by cooperative witnesses like Robert Mueller and Don McGahn, to make their necessary case to the American people that Trump must go.

The big question has been how the House Democrats can make Donald Trump so radioactive during this process, Senate Republicans end up concluding that the only way to save themselves in 2020 is to give up on Trump. One Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee may have just revealed a big piece of that strategy: get Trump to implode of his own accord.

Democratic Congressman Cedric Richmond appeared on CBS Face The Nation this weekend and stated that he’s going to let his committee chairman, Jerry Nadler, make the call on whether Donald Trump should be impeached. It’s the latest sign that House Democrats are indeed on the same page in all of this. But even as Richmond was sticking to the party line, he said that he wants Trump to testify before the committee under oath. So this is new.

Considering how carefully House Democrats have been coordinating their impeachment message in general, and how Congressman Richmond had just gone out of his way to defer to Chairman Nadler, we suspect that Richmond’s call for Donald Trump to testify is part of the larger Democratic House strategy. If Trump publicly testifies under oath, he’ll completely melt down for all to see. He’ll also get caught in numerous instances of provable perjury as well.

The best way for House Democrats to take Donald Trump down is to use the “don’t call it impeachment yet” process to make Trump completely nonviable, to the point that even his allies and supporters are left shaking their heads and wondering if there’s any way to continue propping him up. The ever narcissistic and camera-hungry Trump would love to publicly testify before Congress. His lawyers would try to talk him out of it. But if House Democrats can plant the seed and convince Trump that it’s his idea, he just might do it – and then they can use it to finish him off.
