Exposed: there’s an FBI counterintelligence probe involving the Chinese and Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago
When the news broke yesterday that a Chinese woman was arrested at Mar-a-Lago over the weekend with computer equipment carrying malicious malware, we figured the FBI would open some kind of counterintelligence probe into what really happened. Here’s what we weren’t expecting, but perhaps should have seen coming: it turns out the FBI has been running a counterintelligence probe into what the Chinese are doing at Mar-a-Lago for awhile now.
The Miami Herald newspaper is now reporting that, as a result of this weekend’s incident, the Feds are expanding an existing – but up to now secret – counterintelligence probe. The investigation has apparently been running at least dating back to when Cindy Yang was allegedly selling Chinese executives access to Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. This raises all kinds of questions about the scope of what’s really going on here.
To be clear, the way the Herald’s sources are framing this counterintelligence probe, it’s not an investigation into Donald Trump. Instead it’s an investigation into these Chinese operatives. In that sense, Mar-a-Lago is an alleged crime scene, and if Trump has no connection to these operatives, that would make him a victim. But if Trump is connected to either of these operatives in some unknown way, this FBI probe is going to uncover and expose as much.
Now that we know the Feds are investigating Cindy Yang, it brings things full circle. Yang founded the Florida massage parlor chain which was busted for human sex trafficking after she sold it – and now there’s a counterintelligence investigation into her actions at Mar-a-Lago. Is this a coincidence, or is something larger going on here? One way or the other, the FBI will get to the bottom of it.
