“What the hell is going on with Global Waming [sic]?” Donald Trump tweeted Monday night. Donald Trump once again mocked climate science as dangerously low temperatures continue to impact America’s Midwest. It would appear that Trump still doesn’t understand the difference between climate and weather.

This despite having had that difference explained to him numerous times by dozens of people, including one particularly lucid offer of help last November from a young lady identified as Astha Sarmah, who commented: “I am 54 years younger than you. I just finished high school with average marks. But even I can tell you that WEATHER IS NOT CLIMATE. If you want help understanding that, I can lend you my encyclopedia from when I was in 2nd grade. It has pictures and everything.”

Let’s all take a moment, Trump supporters and Trump detractors, old and young, educated and not, to reflect on what’s going on here. Donald Trump, president of the United States, has had the difference between climate and weather explained to him before, over and over and over and over. Yet when he re-asks the question, “What the hell is going on with Global ‘Waming’?” because the weather in the Midwest is being affected by severe cold as a result of the worldwide climate change, it’s proof that he still doesn’t understand the difference.

Are you with me thus far? This article is not intended as a defense of the findings of a majority of climate scientists. It’s an exposition of how bad Donald Trump is at learning something as easy to understand as the difference between climate and weather. So his joke is proof that he still doesn’t get it.

And yet, despite this clear and obvious lack of comprehension on his part, when it comes to the science of climate change, a majority of his followers still believe that he knows better than 97% of all climate scientists, even though he has demonstrated beyond doubt that he cannot grasp the obvious difference between two words that even an ordinary high school student understands. If you’re not frightened by this, right down to your toenails, then maybe this will help: your survival, my survival, the survival of your children, your parents, your siblings and your friends, is nothing more nor less than a punchline to Donald John Trump. Scared yet?
